Assistant Caprenter

Smart Renovations is seeking a dependable and eager Assistant Carpenter to support our team on historic renovation, commercial, and residential repair projects. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone looking to build their carpentry skills while working alongside experienced tradespeople. You’ll gain practical knowledge in framing, finish work, and job site operations while contributing to meaningful projects throughout Charleston.

Starting pay: Based on experience, most likely more than your previous position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist lead carpenters with framing, trim, and general carpentry tasks

  • Safely operate hand tools and power tools (training provided as needed)

  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site

  • Load, unload, and stage materials and tools for daily work

  • Take measurements, mark layouts, and assist with installations

  • Follow project plans and instructions from supervisors

  • Communicate job progress and ask questions to support learning

  • Support jobsite setup and breakdown, including cleanup and debris removal

  • Assist with material deliveries and jobsite coordination

Qualifications:

  • 1–3 years of construction or carpentry experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate

  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced carpenters and supervisors

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and measuring equipment

  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and attention to detail

  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet throughout the day

  • Positive attitude and ability to work well on a team

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
